How Long Does Sea Freight from China to the US Take?

Routes & Transit · Last updated Sep 2026 (prototype demo) · 5 min

Sea freight from China to the US runs about 25–35 days to the West Coast and 35–45 days to the East Coast, cut to 18–25 days on express vessels; Sep–Dec peak season adds 5–15 days.

US West Coast: 25–35 days

To LA / Long Beach, standard service runs 25–35 days (for reference); express vessels cut it to 18–25 days.

US East Coast: 35–45 days

To New York and other East Coast ports, via Panama Canal routing, expect 35–45 days (for reference).

Where the time goes

15–30 days is ocean transit; the rest is container loading, waiting for sailings, port clearance and last-mile delivery.

How much slower is peak season?

Sep–Dec congestion adds 5–15 days. Ship 2–3 weeks earlier in peak season — see our peak season tips.
